My sewing career started with a stuffed calico bunny when I was four years old. Since then, I've explored historic costume, fantasy cosplay, home décor, and all sorts of vestment; at one time I made a business of it.
Until 2020, I drafted my own patterns. I'm grateful that the internet has made print-on-demand from independent patternists a reality of late, saving me time and energy while also supporting indie artists. Win-win!
As I get older, my focus is no longer on product but on process: moving from quantity and instant gratification to quality, artistry, craftsmanship, and dedication. Now, I delight in my laborious knitting, weaving, spinning, embroidery, and hand stitching projects.
If I had learnt it sooner in life, I would have been a sculptor and my medium would have been fabric. As it stands, this is another of my gloriously intricate hobbies where I marry my keen engineering and systems skills with my artistic eye for pattern, color, weight, and texture.
